Welcome to my creative world…

Showing Up

How Consistency and Presence Shape Your Writing Journey

Sometimes, we search for signs, hoping the universe will send us a message to confirm that we’re on the right path. We look for validation in achievements, milestones, or the applause of others. But what if the sign we need isn’t external at all? What if it’s hidden in the simple act of showing up?

The Unexpected Letter

Not long ago, I stumbled upon a letter from my future self. It wasn’t an actual letter that had miraculously traveled through time, but it felt like one. The words resonated so deeply that it seemed they were written by someone who knew me intimately, someone who had walked the same roads, faced the same doubts, and emerged on the other side with unwavering wisdom.

The message was disarmingly simple: “Your job was never to control the outcome, only to show up, heart open, pen ready.” At first glance, it might seem like an obvious piece of advice, but the more I sat with it, the more profound it became.

The Weight of Expectations

As writers, we often find ourselves entangled in expectations. We measure our worth by word counts, the success of our books, or how many people read, comment, or share our work. We chase after external markers, believing that validation lies somewhere beyond the next chapter, the next publication, the next milestone. But the truth is, real success isn’t out there. It’s right here, in the act of writing itself.

Facing Doubt with Presence

There are mornings when doubt clings to me like a shadow. I sit in front of a blank page, questioning whether my words matter, whether my voice is strong enough, whether my stories will find a home in the hearts of others. On those days, the temptation to give up, to walk away, is strong. But then I remember the letter. I remember that my only job is to show up.

Showing up isn’t glamorous. It’s not always inspiring. Sometimes it looks like staring at a blinking cursor, wrestling with words that refuse to cooperate. Other times, it’s scribbling down fragmented thoughts that don’t yet make sense. But within that simple act of presence, there’s magic. There’s a quiet defiance in saying, “I am here, and I will write, even if it’s messy, even if it’s hard, even if no one ever reads it.”

Redefining Success

Success isn’t a destination. It’s embedded in the process, in the ritual of meeting the page daily, in trusting that each word, no matter how imperfect, is a step forward. Every blog post, every journal entry, every rough draft is a seed planted. Some will bloom into vibrant flowers, visible and celebrated. Others will remain hidden beneath the surface, nourishing me in ways I can’t fully understand.

Embracing “Enough”

The fear of not being “enough” is a familiar companion. It whispers doubts, questioning our talents, our purpose, our value. But here’s the truth that letter reminded me of: You are enough simply because you exist. Your words matter because they are an extension of you, not because of who reads them.

So, if you’re sitting there, wondering, “Is this working? Am I enough?” let me assure you: yes. The very act of showing up is a declaration of faith in your craft, in yourself. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to be present.

The Masterpiece of Your Life

Keep showing up. Keep writing. Not because you’re chasing success, but because you’re honoring your voice, your story, your journey. The masterpiece isn’t just the book you’ll one day hold in your hands. It’s the life you’re living, one word, one day at a time.
