The Power of Quiet Perseverance

A Journey of Growth and Writing

There have been many individuals along my path who have shaped me into the person I am today. I have always been shy, quiet, a trait I once believed would work against me. But I have learned that there is power in quiet perseverance. Some people recognize the strength of those who move steadily forward, step by step, without the need for fanfare.

My first memory of someone believing in me takes me back to high school. I loved math, yet I wasn’t the ideal student in a strict Catholic school run by Irish nuns. When my grades faltered, they held me back a year. At the time, it felt like failure, but looking back, it was the best thing that could have happened to me. That moment redefined me. It ignited something within me, the drive to excel, the hunger for knowledge, and the deep satisfaction of seeing my efforts reflected in my results.

One teacher, my math teacher, saw something in me. He told me I was hardworking. That simple statement, shared just a few months into the school year, changed everything. I carried those words with me, letting them propel me forward. I realized then that I could work hard, that I could achieve, and that I was capable of more than I had allowed myself to believe.

I have always held great respect for teachers. They have the power to uplift or discourage, to ignite curiosity or extinguish it. I was fortunate to meet individuals who gave me the space to shine. My career has been filled with such mentors, and I remain profoundly grateful for them.

Writing has always been my quiet refuge. Over the years, I have filled notebooks with stories, some that have evolved, some that remain untouched, and others that will never see the light of day. But each one has been a part of my journey. The more I write, the more I grow. I have come to believe that writing isn’t something that requires endless study; it is an act of creation, an unfolding of something already within us.

Language studies were never my forte. French is my first language, yet I write in English. Each day, I connect with the writer within me, Amara Hartwood. She carries me through the stories, revealing ideas and structures that surprise me. There is a rhythm, a confidence that she brings, a certainty in the unfolding of the words.

I build my confidence by showing up. Even on days when exhaustion whispers that I should do less, I write. I follow my excitement, trusting the flow of inspiration. When I step into Amara Hartwood’s world, all I need is my laptop, she does the rest. I believe in her, in the journey she guides me on. I love what she sees, how she pieces things together, how she allows the magic to unfold.

Every day, I surrender to the joy of being who I am, both the quiet achiever and the storyteller, both the student and the creator. And every day, I honor those who fostered my growth, carrying their belief in me forward, shaping the stories I tell, and the life I continue to create.
